For Florida restaurant security systems:

Temperature Detectors: Monitor the temperature of critical areas including walk in coolers or freezers. The monitoring center will notify you if your freezer reaches a temperature un-safe for storing food. There have been many instances of a walk in cooler or freezer failing outside of normal business hours. As a business owner, losing thousands of dollars worth of food product can be devastating. The sooner you know there’s a potential problem looming, the more quickly you can react.

Security Camera Systems: Security cameras in restaurants can help protect you from frivolous liability suits. Cameras can allow you to remotely view live footage of current front of house and back of house operations to ensure that operations are running in a safe manner. Slip and fall suits are prevalent in restaurants and having the evidence you need to protect your business could save you thousands in the future. Security camera systems also help you to prevent shrinkage from theft or waste. Managers or restaurant owners can see the tracking of inventory as it makes it’s way from the back to front of house. Security cameras can also monitor your cash register operations to prevent accidental or intentional money loss.

Flood Detectors: Restaurant equipment like dishwashers have so many moving parts and hoses that can give way at the most inopportune time.  Flood detectors can quickly notify you in the event of a busted water pipe in your restaurant. Again, the quicker you know – the quicker you can react!

Panic Buttons: Lane Electronics and Alarm Systems can install panic hardware in places including the front of house cash registers, manager’s office and even in your walk in cooler to quickly trigger a police dispatch in the event of an active perpetrator on site.

Safe Alarm Sensors: DMP Security products makes an intuitive sensor for monitoring the position and integrity of your money safe. Sensors can tell you when a safe door is opened or closed, as well as if the safe moves or if the safe is under physical attack. The security alarm system can trigger local sirens and notify the monitoring center to dispatch the police department for a fast response.

Access Control: Consider adding a single door strike or door controller maglock to your key personnel doors to allow after hours access for deliveries or cleaning crews. Not giving a key to your business to third parties allows you to control the hours and authority level of access on a per user basis.

Security System Monitoring: Of course, business owners know that having a business security system that monitors your business for intruders is important! Having a monitored security system can save you money on insurance and protect your physical assets even when your business is closed.

Remote Smart Phone Control: Get notified when your employees open the restaurant and when the restaurant is closed at the end of the day. Our state of the art smart phone application can keep records of every time the business security system has been armed or disarmed as well as keep record of important sensor activity.

Many of these business security system features can be cross beneficial to businesses of all specialties. In future blog posts we will describe more in detail how our security systems can help your retail business, your warehouse business, self storage businesses, professional offices, medical facilities and more!

Annual Fire Alarm Inspections

Fire Alarm Inspection

Annual fire alarm inspections are required by law!

Florida Fire Alarm Prevention Code requires that certain businesses have a fire alarm system installed, maintained and monitored. There is much more than just the initial fire alarm installation. Your chosen fire alarm monitoring company or fire alarm service company must provide you with annual fire alarm inspections. These annual fire alarm inspections are an important process that must be followed in order to protect life and property. Fire alarm systems are installed in hopes that they never have to be used. In the event that a fire alarm system is triggered, it’s important to know that the fire alarm will work and that the proper authorities will respond quickly.

What is done during an annual fire alarm inspection?

A Florida certified Fire Alarm Systems Agent (FASA) fire alarm technician will perform a visual inspection of all fire alarm devices including:

Manual Pull Stations also known as Manual Fire Alarm Boxes

Smoke Detectors

Heat Detectors

Heat Alarms

Supervisory Signal Devices – including Lockboxes

Duct Smoke Detectors

Waterflow Devices

Valve Tamper Switches

Gas Detectors

Strobe Devices

Horn Devices

Horn – Strobes

Speaker Strobes

Voice Evacuation Panel

Fire Alarm Panel

Battery Condition

Battery Installation Date

Remote Fire Alarm Annunciators – Fire Alarm Keypads

A visual fire alarm inspection can help the technician to determine if there is any physical damage to the devices that may cause a malfunction – either in the deliberate initiation of the fire alarm system or if the device may pose the potential for a false alarm trigger.  It’s also important to ensure that no required fire alarm devices have been removed from the property.

After a thorough visual inspection, the fire alarm technician will perform a functionality test to determine that the devices are working as intended and that the fire alarm sequence of events takes place as it’s intended.

The technician will contact the alarm monitoring central station and request that the fire alarm monitoring account be placed on test. This means that while the operators will receive the signal information from the control panel, the fire department will not be dispatched.

Once the system has been placed on test, the technician will begin a functionality test by manually engaging the fire alarm pull stations, smoke detectors, heat detectors and other fire alarm initiating devices. When this action occurs, the technician will observe and document the events that follow – including the initialization of the fire alarm strobes, horn strobes, speaker strobes and other notification appliances.

During the process of the fire alarm sounding in alarm, the technician will verify that the system’s power consumption is appropriate, that the proper signal information is being transmitted to the monitoring center and that the system is able to be reset to normal.

The fire alarm technician will also test the fire alarm panel’s ability to recharge backup batteries and replace depleted back up batteries as needed.

A full fire alarm inspection report is provided to the on site property representative to be placed near the fire alarm panel and a copy is brought back to the Lane Electronics and Alarm Systems office for record keeping.

If there are any deficiencies found during the fire alarm’s visual or functionality tests the deficiencies must be reported to the proper Florida fire alarm jurisdiction along with a plan of action to repair these devices.
