Florida H.O.A. Gate Cameras – A New Necessity

Central Florida area homeowner’s associations are re-investing in their neighborhoods in all new ways. It seems that in the past, cameras that monitor activity at the electronic gates of these Florida properties was a privilege for the wealthier subdivisions. Today, we’re finding the trend of having digital surveillance cameras at the gate house or electronic tele-entry a necessity like never before. For the first time, we’re seeing IP digital license plate cameras deployed in the field to track users whom are coming and going. Homeowners want to know who is calling them from the tele-entry and are more suspicious of late night delivery drivers.

Amazon now has a contract with the United States Postal Service to deliver Amazon prime packages on Sunday – a new phenomenon that still causes the eyebrow raise of homeowners. We’re not used to seeing mail delivered on Sunday and with all the package theft going on, one would grow mighty suspicious seeing a delivery driver in their neighborhood on a Sunday evening. People feel like living in a gated community makes them safer – that if a person has entered the community they must be vetted in some way. This may not always be the case. As one homeowner in Dr. Phillips recently reported – a visitor at the community telephone entry unit rang her phone to request entry late on Sunday evening. The person boldly announced “Amazon delivery” and our client let this unknown person in by pressing the code on her cell phone to release the community gates.

It wasn’t until after the gate had already been open that she thought – “How do I really know it was a delivery driver?”. “I had no way of knowing who was really at the gate, because I didn’t have a camera feed to view the gate”, she said. Lane Electronics and Alarm Systems, Inc. of Winter Park, Florida is working with this Orlando, Florida Homeowner’s Association now to solve this dilemma. We’ve designed a fully digital CCTV system that will allow the community guard to review after hours camera footage of the electronic gate activity and will give homeowners the smart phone camera app they need to make decisions about the identity of the guests before allowing them entry.

IP license plate cameras will be deployed on both the entry and exit gates. We will also have digital IP surveillance cameras that will provide facial recognition of drivers coming and going through the community gates. A digital witness will keep eye on the guards and all guests coming and going throughout the property. Telephone entry access isn’t enough these days, a community must take action to protect its residents by providing them with a gate camera system. If you need help upgrading your existing gate cameras or installing a new system, please reach out to Lane Electronics and Alarm systems in Winter Park, Florida. Don’t take for granted that your existing builder-grade camera system is enough – technology like this needs to be upgraded about once every 7 years.
